Grammar Rule in 30 Seconds
Use 'هؤلاء' for people near you and 'أولئك' for people far away, regardless of gender.
- Use هؤلاء (haa'ulaa'i) for a group of people standing close to you: هؤلاء أصدقائي (These are my friends).
- Use أولئك (ulaa'ika) for a group of people far away: أولئك طلاب مجتهدون (Those are hardworking students).
- These pronouns are gender-neutral for humans; they apply to both men and women collectively.
Overview
هَؤُلَاءِ (hā'ulā'i) para 'estes' e أُولَئِكَ (ulā'ika) para 'aqueles'. Isso é um marco no nível B1 porque reflete o princípio fundamental da língua: a distinção entre عَاقِل (ʻāqil - ser racional/humano) e غَيْر عَاقِل (ghayr ʻāqil - não racional/objetos).هَؤُلَاءِ para um grupo de cadeiras, você vai soar muito estranho, tipo alguém que não entende a estrutura da língua.هَذِهِ (hādhihi) ou تِلْكَ (tilka). É um sistema lógico, mas que exige atenção.هَؤُلَاءِ e أُولَئِكَ está enraizada no paradigma عَاقِل/غَيْر عَاقِل. Quando você escolhe um pronome de plural humano, você está se comprometendo com uma cadeia de concordância. Adjetivos e verbos que se referem a esse sujeito plural também precisam estar no plural.مَبْنِي (mabnī), ou seja, são indeclináveis. Em português, a gente tem 'estes', 'estes' (masculino) e 'estas' (feminino).هَؤُلَاءِ e أُولَئِكَ não mudam! Seja o sujeito da frase, objeto direto ou após uma preposição, a forma é a mesma. É tipo um 'coringa'.- Sujeito:
جَاءَ هَؤُلَاءِ الْمُهَنْدِسُونَ(Estes engenheiros vieram). - Objeto:
رَأَيْتُ هَؤُلَاءِ الْمُهَنْدِسِينَ(Eu vi estes engenheiros). - Após preposição:
تَحَدَّثْتُ إِلَى هَؤُلَاءِ الْمُهَنْدِسِينَ(Eu falei com estes engenheiros).
هَا- em هَؤُلَاءِ é a partícula de proximidade que a gente vê em هَذَا, e o sufixo -كَ em أُولَئِكَ é a partícula de distância que vemos em تِلْكَ.هَؤُلَاءِ مُدَرِّسُونَ | Estes são professores |هَؤُلَاءِ الْمُدَرِّسُونَ مُجْتَهِدُونَ | Estes professores são esforçados |الـ (al-), e a frase precisa de um complemento para fazer sentido. Se você disser apenas هَؤُلَاءِ الْمُدَرِّسُونَ, a frase fica pendurada, como se você dissesse 'Estes professores...' e parasse de falar. Você precisa do predicado para completar o pensamento.هَؤُلَاءِ é o básico, mas أُولَئِكَ é usado frequentemente para marcar distância temporal ou até um tom mais formal/literário.أُولَئِكَ aparece o tempo todo para se referir a pessoas que viveram no passado.هَؤُلَاءِ quando está apontando para o seu time ou para pessoas na sala. Por exemplo: 'Quem são essas pessoas na foto?' -> مَنْ هَؤُلَاءِ فِي الصُّورَةِ؟. É muito comum.أُولَئِكَ entra em cena. É uma ferramenta de precisão discursiva que a gente não tem da mesma forma em português.- 1O erro do 'plural é plural': O erro mais comum de brasileiros é tentar usar
هَؤُلَاءِpara objetos. Exemplo: 'Amo estes livros' ->أُحِبُّ هَؤُلَاءِ الْكُتُبَ. Isso é errado!الْكُتُبَé não-racional, então o correto éأُحِبُّ هَذِهِ الْكُتُبَ. O cérebro brasileiro quer concordar o plural, mas o árabe exige o singular feminino para não-humanos.

أُولَئِكَ: O 'waw' (و) no início é mudo! Muitos brasileiros tentam pronunciar como um 'u' prolongado. Não faça isso. Éu-lā'-i-ka. É como o 'h' em 'hoje' no português, que a gente escreve, mas não fala.
