Grammar Rule in 30 Seconds
Use -에 따라 to express that something changes or is decided based on a specific factor.
- Attach directly to nouns: 날씨에 따라 (depending on the weather).
- Use -에 따라서 for a slightly more formal, emphatic tone.
- Often followed by verbs like 다르다 (to be different) or 결정하다 (to decide).

사람마다 가치관에 따라 세상을 보는 눈이 다릅니다.（人によって価値観が違うため、世界を見る目が異なります。） - 2規則やルールに従う場合: 「法律や規定に従う」という文脈です。
사내 규정에 따라 휴가를 신청하세요.（社内規定に従って休暇を申請してください。） - 3時系列の変化（～するにつれて）: 「年を取るにつれて考えが変わる」など、時間の経過とともに状態が変化する際、
-(으)ㅁ에 따라という形式がよく使われます。시간이 흐름에 따라 상처도 아물 거예요.（時間が流れるにつれて、傷も癒えるでしょう。） - 4比例関係を示す場合: 「価格が上がれば需要が下がる」といった比例的な関係です。
수요에 따라 공급량도 조절됩니다.（需要に応じて供給量も調節されます。）
- 1「～によって（手段）」との混同: 日本語の「私によって設計された（受動態の動作主）」という文脈で「-에 따라」を使うのは間違いです。この場合は「-에 의해(서)」を使います。
건축가에 의해（建築家によって）が正解で、건축가에 따라と言うと「建築家次第で（建築家が変われば設計も変わる）」という意味になり、文脈が通じなくなります。 - 2「～によれば（引用）」との混同: 「ニュースによると」という引用の文脈で「-에 따라」を使う人がいますが、これは
뉴스에 의하면が正解です。「-에 따라」はあくまで「変化の基準」を指すため、情報源を示す場合は使いません。 - 3「-기 나름이다」との使い分けミス: 「努力次第だ」と言いたい時に「노력에 따라」と言いがちですが、これは「努力の結果として」というニュアンスが弱いです。自分のコントロール下にある要素で結果が決まる場合は
노력하기 나름이다を使う方が自然です。「-에 따라」は客観的な状況の変化を指す時に使うのがベストです。
